SDS’s Research & Consultancy services focusses on pioneering research and policy analysis in the field of development, across diverse sectors and geographies. SDS employs a context-sensitive methodology to examine policy solutions, comprehending the intricacies of the rural ecosystem and its associated challenges. SDS focuses on in-depth analysis and understanding of social and economic dynamics in rural areas of Eastern and Northeast India. We collaborate with Central and State government entities, multilateral organizations, private entities, national and international organizations, as well as CSR initiatives and non-governmental organizations to assess needs, gaps, and opportunities, helping drive community-centric development programs.

In social research we examine social structures, community behaviour, and practices, looking at issues like gender roles, health in agriculture and allied sectors. Their research often involves participatory methodologies like household surveys and interviews to gather insights.
A socio-economic survey is regarded as one of the most important sources of statistical data on household expenditure and income as well as other data on the status of housing, individual and household characteristics and living conditions. Our surveys help measure the economic conditions of rural communities, assessing livelihood patterns, income levels, and access to resources. SDS deploys both quantitative and qualitative tools to capture diverse perspectives.
SDS conducts baseline studies before project implementation to provide a comprehensive understanding of the initial conditions. These studies generates information on the levels of awareness, knowledge, attitude and practices of a given population. The baseline study is repeated at the completion of the communication programme implementation to measure changes that have occurred over time in the characteristics that were studied before the beginning of the programme. These studies set a reference point for tracking project impact and outcomes, focusing on social, economic, and environmental factors.
SDS collaborates with institutions to explore environmental issues like climate smart agriculture. Our research provides actionable insights to design eco-friendly interventions in sectors like agriculture and allied sectors.
SDS studies the impact of climate change on agriculture, analyzing how changing weather patterns affect crop yields and farmer incomes. Our research explores climate-smart agriculture (CSA) which is an integrated approach to managing landscapes—cropland, livestock, forests and fisheries–that address the interlinked challenges of food security and climate change.

Baseline studies
We explore various sectors (e.g., agriculture, poultry, piggery, fishery) to understand specific challenges and opportunities, providing context-sensitive solutions and identifying areas for intervention. We analyse thousands of data points using a large network of primary data sources to provide our clients with long-term and short-term future outlook on our core sectors in Northeast India including agriculture and allied sectors. We also provide an in-depth analysis of the factors that affect the performance and profitability of these sectors.
